About Barclay Medical Practice – LARC Services
Who Are We?
We are Barclay Medical Practice, an established group of NHS General Practices operating across ten locations throughout the central belt of Scotland. Our goal is simple: to provide accessible, high-quality care to every patient. We believe in doing things differently—improving not just access, but also patient experience and continuity of care.
Through our extended LARC (Long-Acting Reversible Contraception) service, we now proudly support all NHS Lothian patients, offering coil and implant fittings and exchanges at no cost to the patient.
What Does It Cost?
There is no cost to you. This service is completely free for NHS Lothian patients. We simply require your CHI (Community Health Index) number to arrange the appointment. This allows us to be reimbursed directly by NHS Lothian for the care provided, so you don’t have to worry about any fees.
What Is a CHI Number?
Your CHI number is a unique NHS identification number used to match you to your medical records. You can find it on any NHS prescription, appointment letter, medical card, or by contacting your registered GP practice. You’ll need to provide your CHI number before we can confirm your appointment.
Where Do We Operate?
Appointments are available at the following Barclay Medical Practice sites:
Livingston, West Lothian
East Craigs, Edinburgh
You can choose the location that’s most convenient for you.
When Are Appointments Available?
We aim to offer an appointment within two weeks of your request. Slots are released weekly and can be booked up to four weeks in advance. We currently run Saturday morning clinics, with additional midweek availability at our East Craigs site.
Our Standards
All procedures are carried out by qualified, experienced NHS professionals who have completed the appropriate training for contraceptive care. We are committed to ensuring you receive safe, supportive, and confidential care throughout your appointment with us.
